In the maritime world, seafarers are trained to navigate turbulent weather, manage intricate cargo operations, and mitigate technical challenges. But there’s another threat-man-made, subtle, and corrosive-that continues to haunt global shipping: corruption.

Unlike storms or machinery failures, corruption often hides behind polite requests, ambiguous hints, or unstated expectations. It erodes morale, undermines trust, and compromises the ethical foundation of the industry.

Empowering Seafarers Through Integrity

At Synergy Marine Group, we believe that true maritime resilience is not only built on technical proficiency but also on moral courage. That’s why we are proud partners of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), a global initiative that empowers seafarers to recognise, reject, and report unethical demands through structured support systems.

Fighting corruption isn’t only about refusing bribes; it’s about creating an ecosystem where honest choices are protected, dignity is preserved, and integrity is rewarded.

Synergy Hosts MACN India Stakeholder Meeting

On 23 May 2025, Synergy Marine Group hosted the MACN India stakeholder meeting in Chennai, welcoming over 50 maritime professionals from across the industry, including members of the Company of Master Mariners. The session was led by MACN COO Vivek Menon, who joined from Denmark, alongside Soumya Dalua of MACN India.

The event opened with a special video message from Synergy’s Group CEO, Jesper Kristensen, who stressed the strategic urgency of tackling corruption collectively:

“Corruption is never peripheral—it strikes at the heart of maritime integrity and weakens stakeholder trust. At Synergy, we believe trust must be earned continuously—at sea, in every port, and across the entire supply chain. Our commitment is purpose-led: where strong institutional safeguards are matched by individual integrity and the courage to do what’s right.”

Real Impact, Real Support

Key discussions centred around challenges faced at high-risk ports, the importance of prompt employer support, and the need for clear escalation pathways. MACN India’s HelpDesk, which has resolved 100% of the 45 cases it has received—many in under four hours—stood out as a model of quick and effective intervention.

Strengthening the Fight – What’s Ahead

With further outreach planned in Cochin and Mumbai, MACN’s footprint in India continues to grow, supported by Synergy’s sustained commitment to integrity-driven operations. Our MACN Officer contributes to these efforts by bridging frontline realities with ethical best practices through ongoing engagement and collaboration with MACN.

At Synergy, we believe that human sustainability isn’t just about physical safety—it’s also about protecting the dignity, ethics, and mental well-being of our people. Together, through collaboration, courage, and accountability, we aim to steer the maritime industry toward a more transparent and principled future.
